How I’m Expanding My Mind — One New Book at a Time

This summer, I discovered that books can expand more than just my imagination — they can transform my life.

I’ve always loved books. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had my nose buried in a novel — or a Donald Duck pocket. That’s just the way it’s always been, and I don’t see that ever changing.

As I entered my teenage years, I gradually moved away from Donald Duck and found myself drawn to autobiographies.

One book in particular has stayed with me. I can’t remember the title, but I do remember that the story is of a young woman with autism who spent her youth being misunderstood and misdiagnosed. It wasn’t until adulthood that she finally received the correct diagnosis and the support she truly needed.

That book was written straight from the heart, and I read it in one sitting.

Eventually, I found my way to the world of fantasy — and that’s where my heart still belongs. I admire authors like Anne Rice (The Vampire Chronicles), J.R.R. Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings), Stephen King (It), and so many others. One of the more recent books I read was by Sarah J. Maas, one of today’s most popular fantasy authors.
